# Austin restaurant listing observations — dataset notes

Recorded: 20 September 2026. Notes prepared: 13 October 2026.

The accompanying CSV text file (.csv.txt) contains 16 business names, addresses, displayed ratings and total review counts transcribed from an authenticated Locus Austin restaurant search. Save it with a .csv extension to open it in a spreadsheet. Google Places-backed signals were surfaced through Locus. Business names and addresses retain the wording in the historical record.

These are recorded product observations. The original Google Places responses and screenshot files are not available with this dataset, and the historic values have not been independently re-fetched. They must not be described as current verified Google ratings.

The original search recorded a fast-casual restaurant focus and a three-mile setting, but its exact centre and boundary were not preserved. The CSV is therefore a selected listing sample, not a reproducible area census or a validated set of direct competitors. Current opening status, category and customer-occasion fit need separate checks.

## Fields

- `business_name`: name in the saved listing record.
- `address`: address in the saved listing record.
- `rating`: displayed average rating on a five-point scale at capture.
- `review_count`: total reviews displayed at capture; no period is assigned.
- `recorded_on`: date of the Locus observation, not a date for individual reviews.

## Calculations

The 16 ratings sum to 67.7. Their unweighted mean is 67.7 / 16 = 4.23125, rounded to 4.2. Each outlet contributes once. This is not an average of every individual customer review.

Recorded review counts range from 65 to 3,781. Five rows are P. Terry's outlets. These are descriptions of the selected rows only. They do not establish market share, sales, foot traffic, review velocity, star-distribution percentages or commercial performance.

Demographic, activity, distance and composite-score fields from the earlier screen are excluded. They are not required for the narrower listing comparison and their measurement basis was not adequately documented for this article.

## Separate current checks

The article also cites the official Velvet Taco 6th & Congress and Whataburger Barton Springs pages, checked on 13 October 2026. Those checks concern advertised addresses and hours, rather than the September ratings or review totals.
